Running Club
LJA parent and board member Bethany Kois is starting a fall running club with LJA girls. Girls on the Run (GOTR) will host a table at the Women Run the Twin Cities (WRTC) 10 mile/5k Run & Walk at beautiful Minnehaha Falls Park on Sunday, September 25th. Bethany is putting together an LJA team. There are options for 1 mile ($10), 5K ($30) and 10-mile ($50) walk/run events. Debate Team
Our team of 24 students has participants from each grade level and competes along with over a dozen other area middle schools in the Urban Debate League. Middle school students work in two-person teams in debate rounds at local tournaments and have the opportunity to debate both the affirmative and the negative sides of the assigned topic. The topic for the 2011-2012 debate season is whether or not the US should fund a manned mission to Mars at this point in time. Our students have learned a lot about the debate process and are gaining confidence in their public speaking. Many of our team members have had the satisfaction of winning debate rounds and been awarded Top Speaker ribbons. We are incredibly proud of all of our team members and appreciate their dedication to becoming competent in this new activity.
