Interdisciplinary learning – creating connections, enlarging understanding
LJA applies the principles of interdisciplinary learning in which students explore a question from several different perspectives. This enables them to develop a broader and more complex understanding of the subject.
For instance, students learn how to formulate good questions when solving a community recycling issue. Acting as historians they discover how the problem came to be; as artists and writers, they create a production presenting several solutions to a community problem; as scientists they explore the problem’s root cause; and as mathematicians, they figure out the complex patterns and equations for a better solution.
LJA incorporates interdisciplinary learning in 90 blocks of LASS: Language Arts and Social Studies. STEM subjects and specialist curricula are written to address state standards and create interdisciplinary connections across content areas.
